Tralaloo

This summer, I'm planning to:
  1. get a job
  2. get some summer classes
  3. LOSE WEIGHT

Darn my grindylows. I was cleaning my closet last Thursday when I found several pairs of pants which I set aside about a year ago because they don't fit me anymore. I took one out of the bag and checked out the tag. It was a pair of Gap jeans and I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the size: 6. I checked out Gap's website and found out that size 6 is equivalent to a 27 inch waistline (tall). I remember wearing that particular pair and if I remember it correctly, it was a little loose pa nga.

Oh. my. gulaman.

I didn't know I lost 2 inches of my waist when I was still in Baguio. Some of my friends and high school teachers noticed that I did lose some weight (it was the first time we visited LS after graduation) but I didn't really care back then. I was too busy begging June to make that crazy horror movie sound again. LOL.

I didn't realize how much I've grown (horizontally XD) until I compared my old and new pictures
.
Oh well. This is what happens when you don't have a life. Haha. Wateburr. At least I got rid of my zits na.

* * *

3 down, 3 to go. I'm glad I'm done with my 3 lab exams. I just hope the results would be okay or else,

Some Filipino filed a case against Pope Benedict XVI. Wattalayp. If his accusations were proven reasonable, then it means I could file a case against my former teacher who forced us to attend a "seminar" while he/she did everything to stop us from attending a Rosary Meeting.

I read Bob Ong's ABNKKBSNPLAko for the nth time.

Ang tinapay ay lasang sapal.
May amag ang pansit-luglog.
Ibig kong kumain ng sisiw.
Ikaw at ako ay kakain sa araw-araw.
Mahabag ka sa batang binugbog.
May ulol na aso sa daan.
Ang halik ni Hudas ay masama.

HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Oh jeez. It never fails.

I love Harris Arden. =}

I hope I got a decent grade for my 4th Microbiology exam.

I posted this on TSU-LS's Friendster Group in response to Sr. Dungo's question:

What do you remember most about TSU-LS?
  • Yung T.L.E. lessons namin a.k.a. recess.
  • Sina Marshie at Mallow.
  • Yung mga bansag sa akin. HAHAHA!
  • Mga murang pagkain.
  • Everything that has to do with Math (Algebra, Trigonometry, CHEMISTRY, Calculus).
I miss those times very much, I dream of them every night.

P.S. I still believe in God. :)

Moar

I took my Chemistry-Lab final exam this morning. It's an open notebook exam so it was pretty easy. I just hope I placed Hydrogen in their correct places. I actually felt a little sad when I left the room after the exam. That class is one of the best I have this sem. Sigh.

I just discovered the beauty of lj-cut and I might transfer to LJ because of that. Haha. Madali kasi akong masilo, so here you go:

This is what I did last night instead of reviewing my Microbiology notes. Haha. I have no tablet so I just drew them on scrap papers and scanned those. If I ever get a job and save $1600, I AM going to get a TabletPC. Pramis.

I told Mom about the GIANTmicrobes and she thinks it's a good idea for me to get one (para daw ganahan mag-aral). Yayyyyyy mommie!

I have to go back to my Microbiology, our 4th exam is on Monday na, and I MUST get an A on this exam to pull my grades up. Rarr. O_O

Tips on writing a term paper

Paper Writing Panic
Making It Count

So, you have three papers to write and they’re all due in two weeks. Stay calm! Writing a research paper does not have to be a stressful exercise. Just follow the tips below and those papers will practically write themselves!

Choose a Topic
Often, the most difficult part of writing a paper is choosing a topic. Here are some ideas if you get stuck:

  • Think about what interests you. Was something discussed in class that really grabbed your attention? Do you have a personal interest that would make a good paper topic?
  • Look at the news. There are plenty of issues and topics in the news that could give you ideas for your paper.
  • Listen in class. A teacher will usually drop hints for possible research paper topics in class. If not, you can always talk to the teacher, and together you may discover a topic that you never thought of before.

Do some initial research. Try typing a few ideas in the library search engine and see what happens, or browse some books or journals. This way you not only find a topic, you also get a head start on your research.

Gather Information
After you have found a topic that interests you, the next step is to gather information.

Before you start your research, you need to make sure that your topic is specific enough to make a good paper. This will focus your research, so you spend your time locating good, relevant information that you will really use.

A good way to focus your paper is to create a research question. For example, if your topic is the Cold War, here are some possible research questions: What is the origin of the Cold War? What impact did the Cuban Missile Crisis have on the Cold War? How and why did the Cold War end?

Once you have your research question, it's time to gather your information. A good place to start is an online library. This is a fast way to find a lot of quality research material. But be careful if you're using general web search engines – you’ll find some good information mixed with quite a bit of junk. Your teacher wants you to use credible, academic content.

Detailed Notes
After you have gathered mounds of information, you may take one look at it all and think to yourself, "Now what?" How are you going to take all these resources and organize the information you need for your paper?

Here are some time-saving tips for putting together your notes and information:

  • Be honest in your writing. Use your own words when taking notes and put exact quotes in question marks.
  • Use different color highlighters to easily identify different points within your own notes.
  • Make note cards to organize quotes and specific facts that you may want to include within your paper.
  • Be sure to note the sources you got your information from - you need this information for your notes and bibliography.

When you stick to the topic and create clear and accurate notes for yourself, you'll be surprised at the amount of time you save.

Outline and Thesis
After you have gathered your information, it's then time to think about actually writing your paper. A great way to start is to create an outline and a thesis.

A thesis is a clear, specific statement of the main idea or argument of your paper. It should express the point you are trying to make about your topic. It should not be a simple statement of accepted fact. Here are examples of good and bad thesis statements:

GOOD: Toni Morrison's novels combine poetic language with emotional impact to become powerful studies of the African-American experience.

BAD: Toni Morrison is a well-known writer who has published many novels.

An outline takes the main ideas in your thesis and organizes them. Think of it as a skeleton for the fleshed-out final paper. An outline also gives you a guide to follow to keep your thoughts organized as you write. After the main ideas are highlighted, your paper should be a detailed explanation of all the ideas you wrote in your outline.

Revise Your Paper
So, you finally have your paper written. You've reached the required number of pages and you've already let out a huge sign of relief. Now you are ready for the final stage of your paper: The Revision Process.

Revision is essential. It is like putting icing on the cake. Here are some great tips for revising your paper:

  • Read the paper out loud to yourself and to other people. You'll be surprised at how useful this is.
  • Use your school. If it has a writing center, then it can help you with the paper, and find any grammatical errors you might have missed.
  • Re-evaluate your paper's organization, and check to see if it matches the original setup of your outline.
  • See if there is anything that you would need to add or take out of your paper. Maybe something is not explained enough or maybe you explained something too much. Be alert for unclear or incomplete thoughts.

Bibliography
Has your teacher emphasized the nasty consequences of plagiarism yet? Plagiarism is a serious offense which can lead to expulsion from school. It is representing someone else's words and work as your own. To avoid plagiarism, be sure to appropriately credit all your sources. There are several things to keep in mind when citing sources:

  • Use the right style. There are many different ways to cite your sources. MLA and APA are the most popular, but there are several others. Your teacher will let you know what form to use.
  • Double check the punctuation and spacing in your notes and bibliography or works cited list - getting this wrong could mean points off!
  • Be sure to include all the sources from your notes or parenthetical references in your bibliography or works cited.
  • Use your own words when you write - when you use someone else's, put it in quotation marks and cite the source.
  • Cite the source for all factual information in your paper, except for commonly known facts (like George Washington's birthday).

Shenaniganz

I LOVE the SDSU Nursing uniform. SLU implemented the same rule with the pink uniform.

According to the Nursing Student Handbook,

The nursing student uniform and the name pin bearing the South Dakota State University (SDSU) emblem are to be worn when the student is participating in clinical experiences. The student uniform and name pin are worn only for clinical experiences as authorized by the College of Nursing. There are times when, due to time factors, students need to be ready for clinical laboratory while attending other classes on campus, or participating in other activities. For infection control purposes it would be advisable to wear a lab coat when wearing the uniform on campus prior to or after clinical sessions.

I miss wearing uniforms.

God, I miss high school so much. Sure, they called me names--naging horsey ako kasi mabilis akong tumakbo at syempre, ang ever famous baka-ness kasi.. aba ewan--but we know how to ride on a joke and we called each other names din naman (as in lahat yata, may bansag), so no biggie.

I could spend the whole day reminiscing high school, kaso inaantok na ako.

Tarsday

I love Thursdays. Since I don't have any classes on that day, I get to wake up whenever I want and keep up with my schoolwork without any pressure. I like studying for fun (did I just say THAT? Haha). I mean, I like to study just because I want to, not because there's an exam tomorrow and I have to spend the whole day studying for it.

Yesterday's Thursday and these are what I call "Thursday thingies".

I won a set of FIFTEEN hardbound John Grisham novels at eBay. I purchased all of them for $25 (shipping included) and saved approximately $30. YAYAYAYYY! Me loves saving munneh!

Here are the book titles:

1. The Pelican Brief

2. The Client

3. The Chamber

4. The Rainmaker

5. The Runaway Jury

6. The Parter

7. The Street Lawyer

8. The Brethren

9. A Painted House

10. Skipping Christmas

11. The Summons

12. The King of Torts

13. The Bleachers

14. The Last Juror

15. The Broker

Here's a picture of these beauties:

I'm planning to resell The Broker and/or The Brethren since I already have those two, but I still have to think about it.

I am absolutely addicted to the works of Grisham. A Time to Kill is probably his best work (I haven't read The Firm yet, but I heard it's really good). I remember reading it for our book report when I was in third year high school. It was Tristan who lent me the book, and I can't thank him enough for that. I got a frikkin B for the report but--DUH. I hate reading NOVELS for the sake of passing a subject.

Anyway, I had a crush on Jake Brigance and was deeply saddened when his house was burned down.

The Brethren is a good one too. I don't know why, but I have a strange liking for books where they force people like Quince to give them whatever they want (you wouldn't know what I mean unless you read it). Maybe I could use the Brethren's idea to get someone to marry me. Haha. I kid, I kid.

The Broker took me more than a year to finish. I felt like a turtle on a 100-mile race while reading it. If you want to learn Italian or how everything goes at Bologna, Italy, I suggest you read this one. I think the last few pages pulled it off though.

I want to meet Teddy Maynard. =)

I've also read N. Spark's The Guardian. I love love love love it! It was my first time to read that kind of novel and I simply CAN'T let go of the book! I was like:

While reading Chapter 1...

Okay, I'm gonna read until the end of this chapter only.

After Chapter 1, I looked at the time...

It's still early, I'll go ahead and read Chapter 2.

After Chapter 2...

Promise, hanggang Chapter 5 na lang.

After Chapter 7...

Chapter 10. Promise. Eto na talaga.

After Chapter 16...

Eeeeee! Chapter 20!

After Chapter 20, I had to put it as far away from me as possible, so I could go back to my review.

The next day, instead of studying for my Chemistry exam, I finished the book--so I had to stay up late and study. The result? Stupid exam mistakes. I almost flattened my forehead slapping it everytime I remember my answers. What the hell was I thinking when I wrote that? Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

But I still love Sparks. =)

Next thing on the list: The Notebook

I'm currently reading Susan Minot's Evening. So far, I'm NOT liking it. I was shocked when I read the first page. I scanned the other pages and nearly cried.

Where the hell are the quotation marks?

It might not be a major problem for many, but it is for me.

Oh boy. Another one that will take me ages to finish.

Random:

I joined the Candy Blog Awards that's why I feel a little obliged to post entries.

I love my Chemistry class. I didn't want to take that class at first since it's on 7-10pm and I'm afraid I will doze off in class or I might run into someone or something while driving at night, but neither has happened to me, so thank God. I like my classmates too. I was actually surprised when they started talking to me and saying "Hello" whenever I come in. I like the way they smile and crack jokes. They don't complain that much too. We share the same rants about Microbiology and Nursing, but we don't go to the point where we blame everything to our professors. They're hardworkers too. Only a handful have their laptops with them and I can see that they use them only to take notes. There's a certain look of eagerness on their faces. Parang gusto talaga nilang matuto, and I like that.

We have a really good instructor too. Karl Emanuel is one of the smartest men I've ever met. He is the smartest Chemistry professor I EVER had, and that's saying something (considering I've taken Chemistry for the 4th time since high school). Sometimes he gets carried away by a certain subject, but it's OK. At least the randomness is still related to Chemistry. XD And all his extra efforts--imagine staying at the library for 4 hours just to do 2 study sessions during the weekend. If only my high school Chemistry teacher was like that.

One of the reasons why I didn't want to take classes at BHSU is because last year, I had all my classes under that school and all my classmates were like x_x. I was a loner. No one talked to me. No one even LOOKED at me! Sad. But boy am I glad I took this Chemistry with that school. I still don't like the idea of a Chemistry paper though.

When I was taking Chemistry at SDSMT last semester, a lot of students were just playing solitaire or updating their Facebook accounts instead of listening to the instructor--and they're the ones who complain a lot. Blah blah blah, whatever whatever whatever. Sometimes, I want to scream at them. It's your fault. You never listened. You never tried to understand the subject. They really don't know what they're saying. I doubt if they would last a day at SLU, especially with Ma'am Oda. Baka nagwala sila doon nang hindi oras. Wala kasing patawad doon.

I need a campus crush. NOW. Why? Because I have to lose weight. Fast. And the sight of a campus crush will somehow inspire me to lessen my food intake. Now that I've mentioned it, I've noticed I started gaining weight right after I "lost" those campus crushes. WOW. I have a lot of cute/handsome classmates but I haven't taken a liking to any of them. Weird. Maybe it's because none of them is Raymond-ish or Daniel-ish enough to make it to the list. And yes, I actually have a list of my crushes. I might post it here someday--I don't really care since 77 of them are famous actor/singers. My last count was 84, and the last one was Ben Barnes of CoN: PRRRince Caspian. HAHA.

Hotter than siling labuyo? Neh.
He's hotter than half a gallon of Tabasco sauce (which could kill you, btw XD). Yebah!

Hotter than siling labuyo

So.. okay. The video is as boring as hell and I cringe everytime they "touch" each other (HAHA) but Jesse McCartney is hoooooooooooot!

I like him better in his Beautiful Soul video, though--and Just So You Know is still his best song ever. Well at least for me.

Look at him. LOOK AT HIM!

Lovely. ♥
That's not his best shot. The pause button just does not know how to cooperate. :|

I saw Disturbia last Thursday and I died when I saw Shia Labeouf.

I've been crushing on him since he did Holes.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I just hope they won't come out in public in the future and proclaim say they're gay. I have nothing against homosexuals--I just don't want another one on my list--if you know what I mean.

Philippines

It is where carabaos graze, and coconut trees grow,
A land where mountains rise, and waterfalls flow.

It is where I played in the fields, and climbed the mango tree,
A time when my cousins and I were one, and also three.

It is where I ran to, when I was too weak,
A place where I rested, when there were answers to seek.

It is where I voyaged, wondering what is there to see,
A time of search, with a longing to be free.

It is where I held hands, and where I kissed,
A land where I grew up, a land that will be missed.

It is where I smiled, and where I wept,
A land of memories, always in mind it is kept.

It is where I was born, and though I now depart,
The beautiful land of the Philippines, I keep close to my heart.

Dancey!

XD

balewalain nyo itong nagiiscroll, nakatrip ako ngayon eh. :D
